Human demodex is a small skin mite that lives deep inside of the sebaceous glands and in the hair follicles. Demodex can be found on the skin of humans and animals. With sophisticated digestive system, the mite feeds on sebum oil. Small number of demodex mites is harmless to human skin. Most people don't know and never heard about the demodex. Fully functioning immune system plays vital role in controlling demodex population.
When, for different reasons, our immune system fails to provide protection, the demodex mites starts to multiply without control, triggering skin itching, burning, under skin crawling sensation and other demodex related symptoms.
In many cases, first signs of demodicosis (large number of demodex mites) appears on facial skin. The mites like to stay closer to large sebasious glands - main food sours. But, the facial skin is not the only place where the mites can start its colonies. Demodex can find home in the eyelashes, eyelids, eyebrows and even on the scalp.

If you were diagnosed with demodicosis, you will need a treatment. Always consult with doctor. Some topical anti demodex creams and lotions made with antibiotics and steroids. Your doctor
can tell how long you can use the medication before it starts to affect the immune system of the skin.
If used for long time, steroids and antibiotics can be harsh for your skin's immune system. Cream with sulfur can be very drying. If the skin gets dry, your body start producing more sebum oil which will feed the demodex mites.

ReplyDeletedo you know that symptoms of demodex can be like rosacea some times, i thought i had rosacea at first and when i visit my doc, she did say that it was rosacea on my face but it turned out that it is demodex. and forther more it can cause rosacea, i didn't even know about it

ReplyDeletewell its all not proven though that demodex causes rosacea. but rosacea itself is very complicated as far as treatment and what not, maybe it is possible that demodex can cause such problems on the skin. i think the best way to find out (if you have demodex and rosacea together) is to eliminate the mites on your face first and see what happens to rosacea.
ReplyDeleterosacea and demodex are different, the symptoms are different. you probably don't know what it feels like when mites crawl under the skin at night. if you had than you wouldnt suggest to experiment. Demodex sucks, its terrible. i had times whem i could not sleep at night without the lights on cause if i turne the lights off in the bed room, demodex would start crawling more to the point that i could not bare the itch any more.
ReplyDeleteif you have mites in your hair (scalp demodex), get a shampoo for this stuff, there is no other way to clear your scalp from the mites but using good shampoo
ReplyDeletei shaved and used anti demodex cream, tried to use a shampoo it was helping but taken very long time. so i finaly gave up, shavd my head and used cream to kill the mites
ReplyDeleteSymptoms of human demodex mites can look like rosacea. when i went to see the dermatologist, first what he said was - rosacea and it took about six month of use several creams which did not help at all. but because of this time, the demodex mites ended up showing up not only on my chin but they got on to eyelashes. so what i am trying to tell here is that right diagnosis of human demodex is very important. the sooner you get diagnosed with demodex, more chances that you can get rid of the bugs faster.
